Poetry surrounds us in music, plays, prayer, and some prose. It's the most ancient form of communicating stories across generations. Yet, many of us are intimidated by "Poetry." I'm a stay-at-home mom who would rather discuss sasquatch, alternative medicine, and the (non?) existence of god than soccer and potty training. This group is for any skeptical-type people willing to read one skeptical or science-themed book a month (ranging from serious to silly--I'm open to suggestions all over the spectrum) and discuss it over snacks and drinks. We'll each have to buy our own books, 'cause the library book group selections weren't chosen for non-fiction readers.

The Oulipo is a Paris-based "workshop" of poets, writers, artists, and mathematicians, that formed in 1960 to explore "potential literature" (OUvroir de LIttérature POtentielle) and the relationship of formalism and literature.  From such esoteric origins arose a rich and, frankly, awesome body of works, along with a whole catalog of "constraints," tools to use to make your own poetry and literature. An informal cafe-style discussion of astrology. Part book club, part workshop, we will learn and discuss astrology together. For the first few months of meetings we will be going over the book Parker's Astrology (Available on Amazon, through many bookstores or your local library) chapter by chapter.
