Hi Everyone! I started this meetup because there are so many books I want to read, and I think that discussing them with others will make it more fun, challenging, and fulfilling. My academic background is in Philosophy and Anthropology . . . but there is so much more to discover! This is a meetup for people who love learning and thinking about the world around them: sociology, history, philosophy, evolution, primatology, cognitive science, cultural studies, biographies, political science, curre …

A book discussion group for members and friends of the GLBT community. Although the focus here is on reading and discussing books of specific interest to the community, we will read books from other genres, as well. We'll meet on the first Friday of every month to discuss our current selection and select a book for the following month. We'll also schedule occasional MeetUps at museums, concert venues, and restaurants. Whatever strikes our collective fancy.

We decided to combine two of our favorite activities--reading books and watching documentaries--to form a new fun book club for women in their mid 20s and 30s. Each month we will read a book and meet at a restaurant related to the setting of the book to discuss. Within the month, we will also watch a documentary related to some aspect of the book (e.g. culture, country, religion, etc.). We are excited to get this group started and to meet lots of fun new people!! A few ground rules for our gr …

Are you an open minded, fun and cool woman? Are you looking for a good book discussion? Do you care about social activism? If so, we are the book club FOR YOU! You'll read a different book every month, from a long ago lost "Classic" to the "It" book flying off the shelves (and everything in between). We are active in the community, making book donations to the local Libraries, giving money to charities. We also may have a meeting once a month between our traditional meetings just to catch …
This group was created to bring together individuals who read books for substance and ideas. This group is open to artists, musicians, scientists, engineers, and anyone who likes to examine and exchange ideas, respect others' opinions, and is open to learning something from others. We find we get together to discuss what might otherwise be serious topics, but we end up laughing a lot, because it's such a joy to express ourselves and share our ideas...and go off topic now and then. We currently h …
If you want a book club where we pick a book, have an outlined discussion and only talk about the book, this is not it! Most BOOK clubs are of the "You must read this specific book to hang out with us" variety. Our club, on the other hand, uses whichever title we've picked as more of a jumping-off point and we end up discussing a whole slew of different books, authors, and genres. Sometimes, the subject just goes into an off the wall place. You never know what we end up talking about or doing. T …
If one of the many things you miss from college are the class discussions of books that either moved you or that you thought were complete trash then this group is for you! This group is for people who have recently graduated or just people in their 20s or early 30s who would like to get together once or twice a month over drinks or coffee to discuss a book we all read together. First book recommendations are welcome and then we can decide the next book choices at the meetups. I thought this wou …

You’ve experienced the page turner. The book that’s so compelling it forces you to silence calls, stay up later than your early morning permits, and respond in a brusk and irritated tone to any and all commitments calling you away from the story. A story that’s so good, it makes you want to do something about it. Who’s up for a book club that’s one part reading, one part discussion, and one part action? Let’s read Bukowski one month and hold our discussion in the central library that Bukowski fr …

The Tasty Book Club pairs good books with good food. We read a variety of genres: silly books, smart books, memoirs, literary fiction and, yes, we even once read a book about werewolves. We pair the book with food or countries that appear in the book. If a book takes place in Greece, we eat Greek food. If we read a book that takes place in the American South, we go for BBQ. And so on. We aim for diversity among our book choices. Everyone is welcome to suggest books, but preference is given to b …

Sick Minds is not your traditional/original book club. No romance novels, best sellers, Oprah's list or tear jerking books allowed. This book club will be reading bizarre and entertaining books that are also humorous and sometimes considered disturbing to the common folk. Death: A Life by George Pendle is one example. It is a humor book written in a memoir style about Death. One of my sons helped me name the group after I was trying to define a sick mind. He actually did something sick that I …

Hi, ln our club we love discussing books and their film adaptations. After we've read the selected book, we get together to watch the movie on the big screen or on DVD), then we hang out and discuss both over dinner, tea, coffee or drinks. There are always plenty of opinions when a group has both read a book and watched the movie, and your (respectfully presented) opinion is welcome! The purpose of this club is not only to get motivated into reading, but also to build a strong friendship relatio …

This book club meets once a month on Thursday and has been going strong for almost 2 years. We are a group of women interested in talking about current issues and meeting other like-minded people. Do you like checking out some of LA's hottest restaurants? Conversing about the latest best-seller? Meeting interesting women and making new friends? As the LA version of a popular NYC meetup, we will get together at least once a month at an upscale restaurant for brunch or dinner to discuss a novel or book that will be voted on and selected by members. Books range from the latest releases to classics. We will try and expand the number of people who can RSVP for a meetup - having possibly two di …

Open Minds is a book club where we will read books concerning "non-ordinary" topics and discuss what we think. Materialists? Spiritualists? Just plain confused? All are welcome to share their ideas and thoughts. Is there anyone out there?
I decided to start this group through Meetup to recruit people from the local area who are interested in reading and discussing good books. The purpose of the group is to meet once or twice each month for friendly, but lively conversations about books, (fiction and non-fiction,) plays, poems or otherwise that group members have recommend. We might even throw in a movie now and again. The group will be based in Redondo Beach but people from further away are welcome. The group is open to men and w …

Thanks for considering joining my fun book club. I decided to join 2 things I love - cocktails and books! Each month we'll meet at a different bar, and discuss the book in a fun atmosphere. We will be going to a nice, upscale bars, as well as dive bars - I like to mix it up. We'll stay in the mid OC area: HB, NB, Irvine, Costa Mesa, Tustin.
